  • Drugs that can target extracranial tumours and metastases can often not access brain metastases due to the presence of the blood-brain barrier in the brain
  • Macrophages can cross blood-brain barrier
  • Introduce genes with anti-cancer properties into HSCs (single-chain antibodies, peptides, prodrug-converting enzymes)
  • HSC in bone marrow → monocytes in blood → brain tumour-infiltrating macrophages
